Based on true events, Small Things Like These is a story about how even well-intentioned people can turn a blind eye to injustice — and how courage can ultimately change everything.
Academy Award® winner Cillian Murphy (Best Actor 2023, Oppenheimer) delivers a subtle and powerful performance as devoted father Bill Furlong. Small Things Like These is a drama based on Claire Keegan’s acclaimed novel of the same name. Bill works as a coal merchant in a small Irish town, providing for his family, when he gradually begins to uncover the dark secrets hidden within a local convent. As he learns more, he is forced to confront his own past and the silence maintained by a community dominated by the Catholic Church. Emily Watson co-stars as Sister Mary, the convent’s head.
