Poster Ciné once again celebrated Finnish film art as part of Espoo Ciné. Carson Chan, Chief Curator of the Museum of Architecture and Design, selected the poster designed by Juho-Pekka Tanskanen for the film Aurinko laskee Lemmenjoella as the winner of the Poster Ciné film poster competition. The poster also won the audience vote.
“I particularly liked how variations in scale – the size of the font and the relationship between the pattern and the background – were used to emphasise the vast scale of the landscape of Northern Finland,” explains jury member Carson Chan.
Graphic designer and director Juho-Pekka Tanskanen commented on the recognition:
“Thank you so much for both awards! It’s heartwarming to see that our film’s poster resonates with people. For me, posters are a very important and inseparable part of a film, and at their best they function as icons, gateways into the worlds and atmospheres of films. As a process, designing the poster for Aurinko laskee Lemmenjoella was quite straightforward: we aimed to capture the essence of the film and make it resonate with the typography. I hope that, at a single glance, it conveys the atmosphere that runs through the story.”
The 2026 Poster Ciné competition finalists were Antti Uotila’s poster for The Helsinki Effect, Hermanni Suppanen’s poster for Kesäkirja, Mia Selin’s poster for Ei koskaan yksin, and Herra Ylppö’s poster for Kronos Kairos. The finalists were selected by a preliminary jury consisting of members of the Espoo Ciné board: Piia Järvenpää, Manna Katajisto, and Timo Kuismin.
