Äänel x Espoo Ciné: Populism vs. Elitism – Is Culture for All?

Is the time ripe for a cultural renaissance, or is culture simply stuck on a downward slope? This discussion digs beyond the trenches of black-and-white dichotomies, searching for meaning and purpose on the other side of the oppositions “AI vs. culture” and “elitism vs. populism.”

The discussion features Laura Lindstedt, author and co-founder and CEO of the Äänel digital book platform, and Pontus Purokuru, author, podcaster and freelance philosopher. The Finnish-language discussion will be moderated by Tytti Rantanen, Executive Director of Espoo Ciné. The event is organised in collaboration with the Äänel digital book platform.

After the discussion, Bio Rex Lasipalatsi will screen a new film by Romania’s sharpest contemporary director, Radu Jude. The Diary of a Chambermaid, which premiered at Cannes, brings into view the dividing line between “civilised” Western Europe and “backward” Eastern Europe.
