This year’s Espoo Ciné Award goes to Klaus Härö, whose latest film, Blue Baby (2026), will have its premiere during the opening weekend of Espoo Ciné. One of Finland’s most acclaimed and internationally successful directors, Klaus Härö has captivated audiences with his deeply humane films ever since his feature debut, Elina: As If I Wasn’t There (2002). Several of his works have premiered at major international film festivals. Mother of Mine (2005), One Last Deal (2018), and My Sailor, My Love (2022) all celebrated their world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Blue Baby will be screened at Bio Rex Lasipalatsi and Kino Tapiola on Saturday, 22 August at 6 pm. Before the screening, at 4:30 pm, Härö will discuss his work as a filmmaker at the outdoor terrace of Bio Rex Lasipalatsi. The interview in Finnish will be conducted by Manna Katajisto, a member of the Espoo Ciné Board.
