Childless couple Maria and Ingvar live an isolated life on their farm in the Icelandic countryside. On a normal day, their sheep gives birth to an unusual baby. The newborn is adopted into the family and the trio is happy. Things change when Ingvar's rogue brother arrives unexpectedly, shattering the family's idyll with his suspicions about the new addition to the family. Will the family's happiness be tested as tempers flare, and how far are Maria and Ingvar prepared to go to keep their ward safe?

With its minimalist approach, this suspense drama offers tantalizing tension as well as folkloric mystery. Maria, played by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, is also known for her role as Lisbeth in The girl with the dragon tattoo, the first part of the Millennium film trilogy.
