The 35th Espoo Ciné film festival will be held from August 23 to September 1, 2024.
How does the world look like through the lense of contemporary European filmmakers? Come check it out yourself at the end of August, when Espoo Ciné spreads once again to the cinemas in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Celebrating the respectable age of 35, Espoo Ciné will be held as a ten-day event, starting on Friday, August 23, and ending on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
In addition to presenting established makers, emerging talents, and new cinema, the curating of the festival puts focus on representation and supporting minorities. The Crip Ciné series, which was awarded Threshold Association’s Kunnia-Vimma honorable mention last year, will be done again, this year with a new working group. It’s our honor to continue to produce this acclaimed film series, so that the voices of filmmakers with disabilities can continue to be heard at our festival.
The working group of Crip Ciné 2024 consists of Sanni Myllyaho, Sanni Purhonen (Threshold Association), Pinja Eskola (winner of the Your Ciné competition 2022), and Peppi Santaniemi (Vamlas).
Additionally, the Your Ciné idea competition for emerging filmmakers will run again alongside the festival. The purpose of the competition, held for the third time, is to amplify the voices of different minorities and broaden whose stories gets to be seen on movie screens. Further details about the competition, supported by AVEK, will be announced in March.
