Only three nights until it is Monday, Aug 29, and Espoo Ciné film festival starts! For the most impatient, there is already today, on Friday Aug 26, and on Saturday Aug 27, film experiences when Espoo Ciné celebrates the 50-year-old city of Espoo with two outdoor screenings! The outdoor cinema takes place at Aurinkorerassi next to Espoo Cultural Center.
Today there will be the documentary The Punk Syndrome by Jukka Kärkkäinen and J-P Passi shown at the outdoor screening starting at 10:00 pm. The Punk Syndrome tells the story of Finland's hardest punk band: Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. The documentary is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and there are guests coming to the screening: the whole band and the producer of the film Sami Jahnukainen – welcome!
Tomorrow at 10:00 pm, under the August starry sky, the 90’s hit film will be shown: Lukas Moodysson's Fucking Åmål which in turn tells the story of Elin and Agnes, two girls who are frustrated and bored in the small town called Åmål. Have lovely the film nights!
Premiere Films of the festival: Gala Films
It is time to present all of the Espoo Ciné Premiere Films, i.e. the films that will have their pre-premiere at the festival! One, already more familiar Premiere ensemble is Espoo Ciné's Gala Films of which the festival will be opened by Crip Ciné's Opening Film Beautiful Minds (Louhi Hall at 5:30 pm) and Espoo Ciné's Opening Film Three Thousand Years of Longing (Tapiola Hall at 7:00 pm) on coming Monday, August 29.. Thursday 1.9. from party films, the next is the domestic party film Kupla (Louhisali at 6:45 p.m. & Kino Tapiola at 7:00 p.m.) and on Sunday, September 4. the festival culminates in the closing film Rakkaus superheroekari (Louhisali 20:00 & Kino Tapiola 20:15).

Kornél Mundruczón's Evolution is a strong family drama about how the traumas of the past decades are passed on to the next generations, but at the same time hopefully gradually begin to heal! The Hungarian filmmaker couple, who became international stars with their previous film (Pieces of a Woman), director Kornél Mundruczó and screenwriter Kata Wéber have once again created a strong and touching story.
Drama-comedy, on the other hand, is offered by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat's Official Competition, in which a rich businessman wants to make himself immortal by producing the best film in the world. The best film in the world is of course made with the best team in the world - the absolute film director is played by Penélope Cruz and the diva actors Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez!
Also Sophie Hyde's All the best, Leo Grande entertains with its charming cast! The film stars the brilliant Emma Thompson, playing a retired widow who wants to experience what sex can be at its most satisfying and hires the young and beautiful Leo Grande.
Peter Strickland's grotesque and strange Flux Gourmet mixes elements of horror with comedy. The film stars Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), who is one of the members of a collective of sound artists, creating sound art from various food items.
