The Good Daughter

La buena hija

Carmela's life is turned upside down after her parents separate from their turbulent relationship. Everyday life  continues under the care of her mother and grandmother, but Carmela still seeks the attention and validation  from her absent father, whose presence and unpredictability creates tension across the entire family's life. At  the same time, Carmela tries to keep her worries hidden and, like her friends, take her first steps into
adolescence.

The Good Daughter examines the effects of domestic violence through the lens of a teenage girl. The film  highlights different types of physical contact, all present in Carmela’s life: warm, familiar and safe, as well as  new, frightening and confusing. The film gives a voice to experiences that sit somewhere on the border  between the familiar and the unknown. At what point does safety turn into danger? How do you release the  emotions stored in your body that you can't find words for?

Kiara Arancibia Pinto, who plays Carmela, delivers her first film role with remarkable confidence and grace. The film premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where Pinto won the Best Actress award for her role. The film was also awarded with both the Grand Prix and the Audience Award at the festival.
