Maspalomas

It took Vicente nearly fifty years to come out. In Maspalomas, he has finally found the freedom to live openly, a loving partner, and a community where he could truly belong. But life has a way of testing even the freedoms we believe we have secured forever. When a stroke forces the 76-year-old Vicente to return to his hometown, in the unfamiliar world of a care home, he finds himself retreating back into the closet, hiding a part of himself he never imagined he would have to conceal again.

With quiet empathy and understated humour, Maspalomas offers a rarely seen perspective on LGBTQ+ ageing, asking what happens when the identity a person fought so hard to embrace is once again challenged. Rather than dwelling on hardship, the film celebrates resilience, love, and the human need to be accepted for who we are. Warm, deeply moving, and refreshingly honest, Maspalomas reminds us that the search for authenticity doesn’t end with age and that it is never too late to choose yourself.
