Fresh Finnish short films dive into the numbing realities of working life and a small industrial town where economic restructuring has drained away more than just jobs. Even an old film archive or a set of escalators can reveal an eerie kind of beauty.

A slow loss of grip on reality: the search for “objectivity” at the fringes of a society consumed by technology.
Eero Tammi: An Underground Bird (Maanalainen lintu) (Finland 2026, 10 min, no dialogue)
Dedicated to the memory of filmmaker Juha-Veli Äkräs (1948–2021), Underground Bird examines the ghosts of the past, transience and outsiderness. The film was shot in the cellar of the production company Filminor.
Ville Koskinen: teeth (hampaat) (Finland 2024, 10 min, no dialogue)
In popular culture, the escalator has been depicted as a path to the afterlife. Teeth portrays the metro station's escalators as an intermediate space and peeks to the other side of the conveyor—to the engine room where the workers who maintain the machinery are having lunch.

A story told through glances rather than words. It follows people weighed down by the burdens of working life and the grip of emptiness, asking when work becomes meaningful—and when it turns into a portrait of the worker.
