Tristan Forever
Parisian doctor Loran is off to the distant island of Tristan da Cunha in search of a new direction in life. The island of just over 200 inhabitants in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean has been a familiar visiting spot and a safe haven for him for over 30 years. This time, Loran has decided to stay and build a new life on the island. Close to nature and far from the rest of the world, he gets the opportunity to think about his place in the world.
Tobias Nölle and
Loran Bonnardot blend documentary and fiction seamlessly, tenderly observing the life of Tristan. At the center of the majestic island lies a tightly-knit, self-sufficient community built on helping one another. Finding his role as an inhabitant of Tristan, Loran discovers new sides to himself and the familiar faces on the island. New beginnings also awaken old memories.
Juxtaposing loneliness and community,
Tristan Forever explores feelings of belonging in a physical space and offers a look into the history of Tristan da Cunha.
