My Tennis Maestro
Il Maestro
Italy, 1989. Thirteen-year-old Felice is a quiet and conscientious boy growing up in the shadow of his father’s dream: his son must become a tennis champion. After years of relentless training, his father invests the family’s modest savings in Felice’s career. Sent to compete in tournaments across Italy, Felice leaves behind his dreams of a carefree summer holiday. To accompany him on the road, the family hires an unconventional coach, Raul: a charismatic yet unpredictable former tennis champion fleeing a troubled past. In an era of payphones and cars without seatbelts, their journey unfolds from one match to the next, filled with eccentric and unexpected moments.
Under the guidance of his new mentor, Felice catches his first glimpse of the freedoms and responsibilities of adulthood, while his child’s observant gaze begins to sense the hidden melancholy that Raul carries within him.
My Tennis Maestro is a heartwarming story about growing up, masculinity, and unexpected friendship.
