19-year-old Ella's life is transformed by starting university studies, moving away from home, parties, and encountering her first love. However, Norway's disability support system stands in the way of the ordinary life Ella longs to live. In her new university town, the services differ dramatically from those she relied on back home: instead of being granted a personal assistant, she is placed in a residential care facility where even overnight guests are forbidden.

Inspired by real experiences of director Mari Storstein, who herself is a wheelchair user, the drama adds an extra layer to the familiar coming-of-age story as its heroine confronts the discriminatory structures of the Norwegian welfare system.
