Letters to Father Jacob

A pardoned convict Leila is released from prison and sent to work as a personal assistant to Jacob, a blind priest living in a remote place. Her job consists of reading aloud the letters Jacob receives and replying to them. The unyielding Leila doesn’t like her job, and suddenly the letters stop arriving. Thus begins an internal struggle between right and wrong as Leila is forced to confront her own dark past.

The visually beautiful film takes us to 1970s Finland to study the line between good and evil, family relations, and faith. The film was chosen as Finland’s Oscar candidate in 2009 and it won awards like the Church Prize at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck. The music by Dani Strömbäck was chosen as the best Nordic film music in 2009 at the Gothenburg film festival.

Klaus Härö’s beloved classic is a touching drama for the whole family, where the great 1970s look and the soft music create a strong and touching atmosphere.
