Whitetail takes us to the remote forests of southern Ireland, where nature is both beautiful and uneasy. Jen works as a ranger in a nature reserve and has built herself a quiet, carefully controlled life. Yet the woods she watches over are not merely her workplace: they carry memories of youth, love and sorrowful events that have left a lasting mark on her life.

Jen’s everyday calmness is shaken when Oscar, a past love, returns to their hometown. Their meeting brings to the surface things neither of them has been able to leave behind, and Jen can no longer simply avoid the memories and the tragedy that colours her whole life. As a poacher begins to disturb the peace of the reserve, the boundaries between memory and reality start to blur.

The tension in this quietly intensifying drama arises from silence, misty woods and stark landscapes. Nature, with all its sounds, feels almost like a character on its own. Whitetail is a calm yet intense film about memory, loss and the difficulty of letting go.
