Farmer Argyro and Anneta, a local nail technician, live in a small, stagnant village in the mountains of Greece. When Anneta tells Argyro that she is pregnant and will soon be leaving town with her police officer boyfriend, the romantically ambiguous childhood friends decide to embark on a journey to a mystical bear cave. Life changes lead the young women to abandon external expectations and to reflect on what they themselves want from life.

The mythical landscapes of Greece provide the backdrop for the queer relationship, and the wavering human relations are paced by the film’s lingering, painterly scenery. This impressive sensory experience is further enriched by John Tournas’ music, blending modern influences with the rhythms of folk music.

Bearcave is Stergios Dinopoulos and Krysianna B. Papadakis’ directorial debut feature, and it is based on a short film they directed in 2023.
