This year’s selection of Aalto ELO student short films showcases the most talked-about and interesting films by young talents. The works offer fresh, clear views on familiar Finnish topics. These filmmakers will be heard from again!
The following films will be shown at the screening:
Jasmin Gummerus: Limerence (Limerenssi) (Finland 2026, 23 min, in Finnish with English subtitles)
Lotta is recovering from a breakup and develops an obsessive crush on body piercer Lennart. The stylish film depicts desire and longing in intriguing ways.
Yasmin Najjar: 28 Days Left (TJ28) (Finland 2026, 24 min, in Finnish with English subtitles)
Based on the director’s own military experience, this short film follows Amani, a Finnish-Palestinian woman doing voluntary military service in Finland while attacks on Gaza get worse. Amani is worried about her grandfather, who lives in Gaza. The film was selected for the La Cinéf section at the Cannes Film Festival. It also won the Sinun Ciné Idea Competition at Espoo Ciné in 2024.
Juuso Timonen: Mixed Sauna (Sekasauna) (Finland 2026, 16 min, in Finnish with English subtitles)
Introverted Mikko spends a weekend at his new partner’s cottage with their friends. He ends up in an awkward situation when he realises he is the only one wearing swimwear in a mixed sauna. His attempts to escape embarrassment only make matters worse.
Viljami Penttilä: Major Bag Alert (Finland 2026, 15 min, in Finnish with English subtitles)
Teen Janina tries to find her place in the school social hierarchy, where looks, money, and branded clothes decide status. When she hears rumors that some people think she is poor and a thief, Janina ends up stealing a branded handbag from a shop with her friends.
