When Amanda Aaltonen (Marketta Tikkanen), a vagabond, is sent as a prisoner to the Seili psychiatric hospital, she is told she will be released after one summer. Outspoken and fierce, Amanda is prepared to shake up the norms of the closed community. As she gets to know the other imprisoned women, as well as a local fisherman, she begins to find tenderness in unexpected places. However, it is starting to seem like the island is impossible to escape.

Featuring extraordinary performances from some of Finland’s greatest actors, Tell Everyone leads its viewers into the dark history of Seili and deep into the lives of women silenced by society. This film is a harrowing and powerful depiction of the crushing weight of societal expectations, defending freedom, and the love that grows even where violence attempts to suppress it.

Tell Everyone is based on its screenwriter Katja Kallio’s novel, which draws on the real-life experiences of Amanda Aaltonen in the late 19th century.
