The modern-day detective work cleverly intertwines with the events of the 1800s. In 1895, 21-year-old illiterate Adèle leaves Normandy for Paris to search for her mother, whom she hasn't seen in twenty years. On her journey, Adèle encounters two young men – a photographer and a painter – whose respective art forms become central to the story. Along the way, they also encounter bohemian figures such as Claude Monet and Victor Hugo.
Adèle witnesses an exciting era: new technologies, from electric light to cinema, are just beginning to enter people's daily lives. While maintaining a comedic touch, the César-nominated Colours of Time addresses timely questions, such as the impact of technological progress on older art forms and the significance of history to the present day. Sparks of romance also burn brightly across the timelines.
