The Thing with Feathers

The Thing with Feathers

Dylan Southern, known for directing music videos for Björk, Franz Ferdinand, and Arctic Monkeys, and documentaries about Blur and LCD Soundsystem, makes a stunning fiction debut with The Thing with Feathers — a visually breathtaking journey into the deepest layers of grief.

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch delivers one of the most powerful performances of his career as a grieving father vanishing into sorrow. After the sudden loss of his wife — the mother of his two young children — the man faces a situation beyond reason. He is confronted by a mysterious force in the form of a crow, yet this presence does not seek to devour him, but to guide him through the darkness.

The Thing with Feathers is remarkably subtle and visually arresting, exploring grief in a way that is bold and terrifying — yet also poetically beautiful. Southern’s background in music documentaries resonates through the rhythm and atmosphere of the film: each scene breathes, and silence speaks.
