Pre-festival Screening: Outsider Art Festival x Espoo Cin\u00e9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Get into the festival spirit before the official opening day! This year, Espoo Cin\u00e9 and the Outsider Art Festival<\/a> (OAF), dedicated to outsider art, are joining forces to present an exciting selection of fresh short films. In addition to the nine films, Tuesday, 19 August will also feature performances by Kalevi Helvetti<\/a> as well as Satu Tani <\/strong>and Maima Tani<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sinun Cin\u00e9 Idea Competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Espoo Cin\u00e9 Idea Competition Sinun Cin\u00e9<\/a> culminates on August 22! Now in its fourth edition, the competition is aimed at aspiring filmmakers from underrepresented minority groups within the Finnish media landscape. On the opening day of Espoo Cin\u00e9, Kino Tapiola will host not only the finalist pitches of Sinun Cin\u00e9, but also talks and panel discussion<\/a> by professionals from the film and TV industry. Opening Screening: Leave One Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The opening of Espoo Cin\u00e9 will be celebrated on Friday, 22 August, in Louhisali at the Espoo Cultural Centre. At the start of the screening, the 2025 Espoo Cin\u00e9 Award and the Sinun Cin\u00e9<\/a> idea competition prize will be presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Am\u00e9lie Bonnin\u2019s bittersweet musical Leave One Day<\/a><\/em> is the first debut film ever to have the honor of opening the Cannes Film Festival \u2013 and now it will also open Espoo Cin\u00e9! Espoo Cin\u00e9\u2019s Family Day takes over Tapiola on Saturday, 23 Aug starting at 10:30 \u2013 Welcome to enjoy the festival atmosphere with the whole family! There will be film screenings, dog friends, and movie-themed activities at Kino Tapiola and Tapiola Library, both indoors and outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Family Day culminates with a free screening of the feature film Itty Bitty Princess<\/em> at the Cultural Centre\u2019s Louhisali Hall at 16:00. The screening is organized in collaboration with Yle and admission is free. Please note that tickets for Itty Bitty Princess<\/em><\/em> must be reserved on our website or at our ticket sales point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crip Cin\u00e9 Gala Screening<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In this year’s Crip Cin\u00e9 gala film \u00c9lisabeth, a hard-of-hearing woman, struggles with her underpaid job during the Olympic Games in Paris. Elijah, a carefree Californian, disrupts her balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First held in 2021, Crip Cin\u00e9 is a dedicated strand within Espoo Cin\u00e9\u2019s year-round programme, focusing on documentary and fiction films that shed light on the living conditions of disabled people. In spring 2025, Espoo Cin\u00e9 organised the first-ever standalone Crip Cin\u00e9 mini-festival, separate from the August edition of Espoo Cin\u00e9. At the August festival, six Crip Cin\u00e9 films can be found under the Crip Cin\u00e9 theme on the screenings page<\/a>.

WeeGee x Espoo Cin\u00e9 Outdoor Screening: The Young Girls of Rochefort<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The event is free and open to all ages!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Espoo Cin\u00e9 and WeeGee present on Espoo Day an outdoor screening of Jacques Demy<\/strong>\u2019s beloved musical classic The Young Girls of Rochefort<\/a><\/em> (1967). The film is a follow-up to the collaboration between Demy, composer Michel Legrand<\/strong>, and the iconic Catherine Deneuve<\/strong>, who captivated the world with The Umbrellas of Cherbourg<\/em> (1964). This classic musical is perfect for a summer evening \u2014 the colors are beautiful and the emotions grand. The film is in French with Finnish subtitles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WeeGee\u2019s courtyard will be softened with a grass mat, but do bring your picnic blanket for comfort! The area is accessible (see here for more details<\/a>). Restrooms are located inside the exhibition centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WeeGee is about a 15-minute walk from Tapiola metro station. It\u2019s also accessible by buses 111, 113, 548, and 549. There is a city bike station right next to WeeGee, and bike racks for your own bike. Parking space is limited and paid.
