The festival programme presents a selection of films from France, German, Great Britain, Spain and Italy alongside films from smaller European countries like Ukraine, Slovakia, Belgium, Switzerland and Poland and naturally from Finland and other Scandinavian countries. This year\u2019s festival emphasizes themes such as new beginnings, love and optimism. <\/p>\n

Gala films<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most appreciated European film makers Christian Petzold\u2019s<\/strong> romantic new film Undine<\/a><\/em> opens the festival. The Finnish film gala selection is Virpi Suutari\u2019s<\/strong> new documentary Aalto<\/a><\/em>. Ville Jankeri\u2019s<\/strong>Forest Giant<\/a><\/em> is screened at the Parade place on Friday the 4th September and Marco Bellocchio\u2019s<\/strong> mafia drama based on true events, The Traitor<\/a><\/em>, closes the festival on Sunday the 6th<\/sup> September.<\/p>\n

Junior Cin\u00e9 (2.\u20134.9.) presents a versatile selection of films from all over Europe. The opening selection is German Rocca<\/a><\/em>, a fun film about a girl called Rocca, helping others, friendship \u2013 and squirrels. This year\u2019s Junior Cin\u00e9 deals with themes such as friendship, finding your own path and having your family to support you when things get rough.<\/p>\n

The master of intelligent comedy, Armando Iannucci’s <\/strong>new adaptation of Charles Dickens\u2019 classic novelThe Personal History of David Copperfield<\/a><\/em>brings out a stunning star cast from Dev Patel<\/strong> to Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi<\/strong> and Ben Whishaw<\/strong>. Alice Winocour\u2019s <\/strong>Proxima<\/a><\/em> tells the story of an astronaut and single mom, brilliantly presented by Eva Green<\/strong>, <\/strong>accompanied by her nasty colleague played by Matt Dillon<\/strong>. Scandinavian stars include Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong> in an impressive role in Out Stealing Horses<\/a><\/em> and wonderfully quirky and rough Wildland<\/a><\/em> with the stunning Sidse Babette Knudsen<\/strong>. The French icons Anouk Aim\u00e9e<\/strong> and Jean-Louis Trintignant<\/strong> bring back their classic characters from Claude Lelouch\u2019s<\/strong>A Man and a Woman<\/em><\/a> in the director\u2019s new film The Best Years of a Life<\/em><\/a>, both screened at Espoo Cin\u00e9.<\/p>\n

We recommend buying tickets online in advance to avoid close contact. On the website screening tickets can be purchased through the introduction pages of the films. The tickets can be ordered online or they can be collected from any Espoo Cin\u00e9 ticket counter. Tickets are sold only for 50% capacity so there’s enough seats to maintain a safe distance to others \u2013 please choose your seat accordingly. Our staff will help you with the optimal seating if necessary. Screening halls are cleaned after every screening, and the event venues will be sanitized frequently during the screenings.<\/p>\n
