Outdoor Screening: William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet

Outdoor Screening: William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet

Saturday, August 29, 9:00 pm | Exhibition Centre WeeGee

Espoo Ciné's outdoor screening's venue will once again be the yard of the Exhibition Centre WeeGee, where Baz Luhrmann's William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet (1996) will be screened. The event is free and suitable for those aged 12 and over!

"This modern retelling of Shakespeare's classic transplants the tragic love story to Verona Beach, while keeping the original language intact. Romeo and Juliet (young Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio) fall for each other through the glass of a fish tank as an iconic mid-90s pop soundtrack plays in the background. Swords have become guns as the Montagues and Capulets go head to head, hurtling toward the inevitable ending everyone already knows, cut together with the pace and punch of a music video.

To mark its 30th anniversary, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet will be screened outdoors at WeeGee, itself celebrating its 20th anniversary. Bring a blanket and wrap yourself in soft nostalgia as the late-summer evening fades to dark. The film will be screened as a 35 mm analogue copy."

Bring a picnic blanket! The toilets are located indoors at the exhibition centre. More information about WeeGee's accessibility here. WeeGe is about a 15-minute walk from the Tapiola metro station, and you can also take buses 111, 113, 548 and 549 to get there. A city bike station is right next to WeeGee, and there are also spots for your own bike. Parking is limited and subject to a fee.

The Exhibition Centre is open until 10 PM. Restaurant Delicatessen WeeGee is also open. Delicatessen WeeGee has a liquor license, and bringing your own drinks to the event area is prohibited.
