Espoo Ciné Recommends: The Apprentice

The October Espoo Ciné Recommends series presents The Apprentice, which delves into the early career of Donald Trump. The film also introduces the controversial lawyer Roy Cohn, who gained notoriety in the 1950s as Senator Jospeh McCarthy’s right-hand man during the anti-communist investigations of the Red Scare. Directed by Ali Abbas, this drama takes viewers to 1970s New York, where Cohn teaches a young but already power-hungry Trump how lies, aggression, and manipulation can be shortcuts to success. Sebastian Stan’s meticulously crafted transformation from the young Trump into a more exaggerated and bombastic figure is captivating. Jeremy Strong also shines as Roy Cohn, bringing unexpected depth and humanity to a corrupt character.

The Apprentice is screened at Kino Tapiola on Thursday, 10 Oct, at 17:15. Get your tickets from Kino Tapiola's website!
