The Poster Ciné competition, which celebrates domestic film poster art, culminated yesterday in the Finnish Gala Premiere. The competition was won by Pauliina Heikkinen's poster from the movie Je'vida, and Juhamatti Vahdersalo's poster from the movie Ilveskuiskaaja won first place in the public vote.
The winner of the competition was chosen by visual artist Teemu Keisteri, also known as Windows95man. At the award ceremony, Keisteri described that choosing Je'vida as the winning poster was ultimately easy.
"Personally, I love classic and simple, so choosing the winner was easy. The poster is delicate and a little melancholic, it draws the viewer in. It has a great black and white photo and a simple, elegant aesthetic," Keisteri explained his choice in front of the audience.
Pauliina Heikkinen, the graphic designer who designed Je'vida's poster, described her thoughts and feelings immediately after the win:
"It has been a pleasure and an honor to be a part of Je'vida, which is a very sensitive, beautiful and important story. Thanks to Espoo Ciné for not only celebrating Finnish film art today, but also wanting to highlight Finnish poster art."
In addition to the winner chosen by Keister, the public's favorite was also awarded at the gala. The winner of the vote was Ilveskuiskaaja, whose poster was designed by Juhamatti Vahdersalo. The winner of the competition and the audience's favorite was announced yesterday at the Finnish Gala Premiere to a full Louhisali. Espoo Ciné's Finnish Gala Premiere this year is Jenni Toivoniemi's Butterflies.
All five wonderful candidates of Poster Ciné showed in a way that domestic poster art is doing well and there are plenty of talented artists.
