Four short films take us through recovering from an eco-catastrophe, a tactile encounter with a work of art, finding a moment of pause in daily routines – and surrendering to the pull of flamenco.
The final film in the screening, In My Skin by Sándor M. Salas, features brief but intense light effects.
Maima Tani & Satu Tani: Hengittävä riutta (Finland, 2022, 07:24)
A work combining textile art, performance, and video art depicts a coral reef losing its color after an encounter with oil. Could life still prevail?
Jessica Rinland: Expression of the Sightless (United Kingdom, 2016, 7:02)
In this delicate short film, visually impaired artist and piano tuner David Johnson explores sculptures through touch, reflecting on the role of tactile experience in perceiving art.
Julieta Tetelbaum: Black Chalk (Argentina, 2022, 07:56)
An intimate black-and-white short film about a woman writing her daily activities on a wall. Sleep and cinema become the reward at the end of a long day.
Sándor M. Salas: In My Skin (Spain, 2022, 14:22)
Flamenco singing and dance express the rawness of life; throughout history, flamenco has also been intertwined with the struggles of marginalized communities and served as a space for political negotiation. In In My Skin, flamenco becomes a means to claim space for diverse bodies.
