Screenings

Arnaud Desplech’s regular Emmanuelle Devos gives an intense performance as a wife and a mother who has kept her husband’s terrible secret to herself for decades. The couple lives in a big house, husband François (Daniel Auteuil) is a respected lawyer who is in the middle of a societally important case. Their biological children have moved away, and their adopted son Raphaël (Matthieu Galoux) is strangely acting out. When the biological son of the couple, Pierre, decides to sue his father after decades of silence, Devos’ Astrid has to choose between protecting her husband and telling the truth. This steadily paced, quietly devastating family drama by Belgian director Joachim Lafosse grows into a tragic study of self-censorship and shame. Valtteri Lepistö
