Screenings

A young PhD student tags along with his harsh and demeaning supervisor to a quantum mechanics conference in the Alps where a revolutionary new theory of everything is to be presented. However, things don’t go as planned or even as seemingly physically possible. As the mystery deepens, the student only grows more confident in his own equally radical theory and finds support in surprising people. Or is the whole story actually just a publicity stunt to advertise a new book? There is clearly some conspiracy hiding here.

The Universal Theory is not so interested in physics and feels more like a ghost story – science fantasy instead of science fiction. The frightening unknowns and resistance associated with a new scientific theory are more important than the theory itself. Many things may be left vague, but the atmosphere is rich, built from stark wide black-and-white images, imposing Alp scenery and perfectly fitting music.
