The Stimming Pool invites both neurotypical and neurodivergent viewers to find a self-determined space where unmasking and stimming are not only allowed but actively encouraged.

Co-created by the Neurocultures Collective, the film cleverly drifts between social realism and fantastical elements. Giving a voice to autistic and neurodivergent creators, The Stimming Pool approaches its subject just as it does its wonderfully fluid form: it does not label, explain, or medicalize – instead, it offers the viewer an opportunity to immerse themselves in a multitude of neurospicy realities. The film paints a skillful image of a sensory-overloaded world, where a typical night out at a bar feels violently paralyzing, and an ordinary day in the office forces one to isolate from others. On the other hand, the films presents encouraging spaces of rest and community. And when emotional regulation or executive functioning still gets too difficult, the shape-shifting hero dog Chess is always ready to help! The film's enchanting cinematography is by Gregory Oke, whose work is also known from Aftersun.
