Wed 16/4/ Panel Discussion:

The Contradictions of Art, Artistic Identity, and Disability

Wed 16/4/2025 at 18:15 | Maijansali, Helsinki Central Library Oodi (in Finnish)

The Crip Ciné festival panel discussion on Wednesday 16 April delves into the contradictions between art, artistic identity, and disability. Does a diagnosis-centered approach shift the focus to disability rather than the artist or the art itself? Or does this framing serve disability politics in a context where the market fails to address minority discrimination? How could artistic structures become more accessible to everyone, especially when their conditions are being worsened instead?

These questions will be explored by activists and artists Isa Hukka, Maija Karhunen, and Sanni Purhonen. The discussion will be moderated by Tytti Rantanen, Executive Director of Espoo Ciné.

The discussion will be held in Finnish and interpreted into sign language.

Duration: approx. 30 minutes. Free entry – welcome!
