My Neighbor Totoro is the crown jewel of the Japanese anime studio Studio Ghibli and legendary director Hayao Miyazaki: one of the most beloved Japanese children's films ever. Set in the 1930s, the film tells the story of two sisters who move to a new home and, while exploring the nearby forest, discover a strange, furry creature, Totoro. Miyazaki's magical world has a childlike, wonder-filled perspective, and as the cat bus leaps over forests and rice fields, even the viewer's cynicism melts away. This deep and gentle anime avoids all the clichés of children's films and is justifiably loved by both children and adults.
The screening is organized in collaboration with Skiffer Haukilahti. The film will be shown at Haukilahti Harbour in front of the Skiffer restaurant.
Next Saturday, on 31 August, we will also be screening Havumetsän lapset in Tapiola's Aurinkoterassi. Read more here!
